Curriculum and Learning Goals
The school’s curriculum is developed in line with the Victorian Curriculum F-10, Languages. It is organised through themes and topics and the school aims to provide progressive and cumulative opportunities for students to develop language and cultural understandings.
Our school recognizes that students have varying levels of Ukrainian language ability and comprehension and work towards providing a suitable learning environment for those beginning to learn Ukrainian, as well as those with advanced proficiency. We encourage language acquisition and appreciation of Ukrainian culture and heritage. In addition to learning the Ukrainian language, students also have the opportunity to learn about Ukraine's culture, history, geography and literature - all in a fun environment. The school participates in Ukrainian community and multicultural activities in the region.
We understand that students reach their full potential only when they are happy, healthy and safe, and that a positive school culture helps to engage students and support them in their learning. Our school acknowledges that student wellbeing and student learning outcomes are closely linked.
While education is the primary function of the school, it also serves as an important community focal point, bringing together new migrants with the established community. Students participate and perform in school productions, concerts and festivals, as well as in cultural activites such as Christmas caroling, decorating pysanky (Ukrainian Easter eggs), arts and crafts as well as cooking traditional food. Students also participate in international Ukrainian language competitions and every year a number of year 7-10 students are recipients of the Maria & Victor Rudewych scholarships organised by the Mykola Zerov Centre for Ukrainian Studies and the Ukrainian Education Council of Australia and.
